Vamonos! Into the Woods

Grace Towers Presents VAMONOS—Into the Woods//A QTPOC Summer Campout.

This is a Queer and Trans summer campout for those that identify as persons of color. Allies, thank you for your inquiries and desire to join us, this is for QTPOC only. We look forward to sharing space outside of VAMONOS.

Friday August 9th - Sunday August 11th in collaboration with Groundswell Community and Retreats Center.

Because we live in a society that centers whiteness, people of color consistently find themselves tokenized, stereotyped and marginalized in social spaces - even those that center queerness. Valuing and protecting spaces for people of color to be their authentic selves is crucial to sustaining our movements of resistance - to reclaim parts of ourselves that have been repressed, and to find restoration from our collective pool of knowledge and shared experience.

As such, we are asking our white allies to support us in protecting a space where people of color have an opportunity to center our perspectives - free from the white gaze. Your continued allyship is critical for this event to succeed! And for those that have the financial means, we are always looking for allies to step up into active accomplice roles by donating to our scholarship fund.
VAMONOS is a QTPOC campout supporting intentional exchange with a focus on nurturing artists, cultural producers and community workers. By centering joy, play, and experimentation, we aim to deepen a connection to self, develop a connection to others, and explore practices of self care and stewardship.

Our mission is to establish an annual convening for QTPOC artists, cultural producers and community workers across all disciplines and fields. As we acknowledge the historical and ongoing systemic oppression within artistic, cultural, social and educational institutions, our goal is to foster a space in which self care—fueled by joy, experimentation and connection are at the forefront of the work we do on a daily basis.
*Vamonos calls in the Latinx diaspora, including people who identify as Indigenous Afro-Latinx, Asian-Latinx, Black, Native American, regardless of their legal status to come together and hold space for celebration, restoration and growth.
Programming includes morning yoga + meditation, site specific performance, artist salon, fireside drag show, hikes, heart space, workshops, discussions, an afternoon at the spa, and other activities to round out the weekend. We wish to curate a thoughtful, fun and engaging line up of workshops, discussion and experiences. If you’d like to submit a workshop proposal, you can do so here.

Participants will have full access to campgrounds, a pond and creekside beach, a commercial size hot tub, as well as delicious and well balanced meals all included as part of their registration fees.  Groundswell offers cabins with single and double occupancy beds with capacity for up to 50 people + ample camping spots for those who prefer sleeping outdoors.
